This help page describes the M&R data input screen for schools called ‘Validate your electricity meter(s)’. Use this screen to validate MPRN(s) for specific years.
An MPRN is a unique number assigned to your school's electricity connection. The consumption data corresponding to the MPRN(s) reported by you is provided to SEAI by the electricity meter operator (ESB Networks). So, there is no need for you to manually report the amount of electricity consumed. The vast majority of small schools, and many larger schools, have one MPRN only.
- This screen is only visible if you have chosen ‘MPRN electricity’ as an energy type and you have answered ‘no’ to one or both of the questions on the your electricity meter(s) screen.
- This screen shows a table of your MPRN(s) with a symbol for each year.
- If your MPRN(s) have not changed, all you need to do is click the black copy icon shown immediately below the most recent year, and click ‘Save & continue’.
- You can use the black copy icon to copy the validation settings from the previous year. This is applied to all the MPRN(s) shown in the table.
- Alternatively, click on an individual red exclamation mark. Then answer the questions in the dialogue and click ‘Save’.
- You can also click on a green tick or blue dash to review or edit your previous answers to these questions.
- This question is about a specific MPRN for a specific year, as referenced at the top of the dialogue.
- Answer 'yes' if your school used some or all of the electricity billed through this meter in the year indicated. You will then be asked a few more questions to enable SEAI to access the consumption data on your behalf.
- Answer ‘no’ if your school did not use any electricity through this meter in the year indicated. SEAI will not seek to access consumption data for this MPRN on your behalf.
- If you answer ‘yes’ additional questions appear. If you answer ‘no’, click ‘Save’.
- This question is about a specific MPRN for a specific year, as referenced at the top of the dialogue.
- In most circumstances the answer to this question is 'yes'.
- Answer 'no' if your school shared the electricity connection with another organisation during the relevant year.
- If you answer ‘no’, you must estimate the proportion of the total electricity billed via this meter that was consumed by the school. If your school shares the meter, it probably shares the bill. So, you could use whatever method used to share the bill to estimate your share of the consumption.
- This question is about a specific MPRN for a specific year, as referenced at the top of the dialogue.
- In order to request consumption data from the meter operator SEAI must establish that the person or entity named on the bill has given consent to do so.
- If you select any of the first three answers, SEAI will request access to your consumption data from ESB Networks.
- If you select the final option ('Your school does not have consent…'), SEAI will not request access to your consumption data from ESB Networks.
- Click ‘Save’.
- All MPRNs must be validated for every year. This reporting step is not complete until all red exclamation marks have been eliminated.
- A green tick means that the MPRN is counted in your school’s electricity consumption for the relevant year.
- A blue dash means that you have indicated that the MPRN is not counted for the year.
- The consumption data corresponding to the MPRN(s) reported by you is provided to SEAI by the electricity meter operator (ESB Networks). So, there is no need for you to manually report the amount of electricity consumed for MPRN electricity.
- When a new MPRN is added to the system, SEAI can typically only access consumption data for the previous seven years. If you require data for earlier years, you will need to work out the relevant annual consumption for these years, by reviewing your old bills, and then manually self-report the consumption (see below).
- Self-reporting electricity consumption is an alternative to entering an MPRN or validating it for a specific year. To self-report electricity consumption you must first choose energy type ‘non-MPRN electricity’ and then enter an annual value for the energy use. You must not self-report electricity consumption for which you also submit a validated MPRN because this will result in double counting.
