This help page describes the M&R data input screen for schools called ‘Your electricity meter(s)’. Use this screen to add, review and update details for your electricity connection(s), or MPRN(s).
An MPRN is a unique number assigned to your school's electricity connection. The consumption data corresponding to the MPRN(s) reported by you is provided to SEAI by the electricity meter operator (ESB Networks). So, there is no need for you to manually report the amount of electricity consumed. The vast majority of small schools, and many larger schools, have one MPRN only.
- This screen is only visible if you have chosen ‘MPRN electricity’ as an energy type.
- If you have not already added an MPRN to the system, this page displays text and a green ‘Add meter (MPRN)’ button.
- If you previously added MPRN(s) to the system, a table is shown, followed by two yes-no questions.
- If your MPRN(s) have not changed and you previously answered ‘yes’ to both questions, all you need to do is check that these answers are still valid and click ‘Save & continue’.
- Answer ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to the two questions.
- Use the green 'Add meter (MPRN)’ button if you need to add an MPRN.
- Use the action buttons in the right-hand column in the table to edit or delete an MPRN.
- The first question relates to the ‘ownership’ of the electricity account.
- It asks whether the bills for the electricity account(s) are addressed to your school and whether the school been responsible for paying them.
- For most schools, the answer to this first question is yes. Exceptions include instances where the electricity bill was paid on behalf of the school by another organisation for one or more years, or where another organisation occupied the premises (and paid the electricity bill) for one or more years.
- The second question asks whether your school uses all the electricity billed through the meter(s).
- For most schools the answer to this second question is also yes.
- Exceptions include instances where a school shares an electricity connection with another organisation.
- Click the ‘Add meter (MPRN)’ button on the top-right.
- Complete the dialogue, noting that the fields with asterisks are mandatory.
- Your MPRN is prominently displayed on your bills. Suppliers provide sample bills on their websites showing where to find the MPRN on their bills. If you cannot find your MPRN, contact your energy supplier who will be able to check for you.
- Please check carefully that any MPRNs that you add correspond to your school.
- Find the MPRN and click the edit icon on the right of the table.
- Edit the dialogue, noting that the fields with asterisks are mandatory.
- Find the MPRN and click the delete icon on the right of the table.
- This will remove the MPRN, including any historical consumption, from your account.
- If you answer ‘no’ to either question you will have to provide additional information on a subsequent validate your electricity meters screen.
- Deleting an MPRN will permanently remove it from the system. An MPRN should only be deleted if your organisation never consumed energy through the meter.
- The consumption data corresponding to the MPRN(s) reported by you is provided to SEAI by the electricity meter operator (ESB Networks). So, there is no need for you to manually report the amount of electricity consumed for MPRN electricity.
- When a new MPRN is added to the system, SEAI can typically only access consumption data for the previous seven years. If you require data for earlier years, you will need to work out the relevant annual consumption for these years, by reviewing your old bills, and then manually self-report it as energy type ‘non-MPRN electricity’.
