This help page describes the M&R data input screen for public bodies called ‘Energy use'. Use this screen to self-report annual values for consumption of different energy types.
For methodology guidance on reporting energy consumption, see energy & CO2, thermal consumption, transport consumption and electricity consumption.
- This screen is visible to all users. It displays between one and three tables, depending on the energy types that your organisation uses.
- An ‘Energy consumption’ table is visible if your organisation uses any energy types other than ‘MPRN electricity’ and 'GPRN natural gas'.
- An ‘Electricity end-use’ table is visible to all users.
- A ‘Renewable electricity generation & district heat exports’ table is visible if your organisation generates its own renewable electricity and/or exports heat via a district heating network.
- Use the 'All years' toggle above the tables to view or edit data for all years back to the start of your energy efficiency baseline.
- If you have already reported complete data for previous years, all you need to do is enter values for the years since you last reported and click ‘Save & continue’.
- Enter an annual value for your organisation's total consumption of each energy type for each year.
- Enter zero if your organisation did not consume the energy type in a specific year.
- This table is visible to all users.
- Enter an annual value for the proportion (percentage) of your organisation's total electricity consumption that is used for space heating, i.e. heating buildings via storage heaters, heat pumps and/or electric ‘radiators’, etc.
- Enter an annual value for the proportion (percentage) of your organisation's total electricity consumption that is used for transport, e.g. electric vehicles. This is optional.
- Enter zero if your organisation did not consume any electricity for the relevant end-use in a specific year.
Additional information is provided under ‘electricity end-use’ in electricity consumption.
- This table is only visible if your organisation generates its own renewable electricity and/or exports heat via a district heating network.
- For renewable electricity generation, enter an annual value for the total amount of electricity generated in each year, in kilowatt hours (kWh). The value reported should be the total amount generated from the relevant source, including amounts that were consumed by your organisation and any amounts that were exported.
- For district heat exports, enter an annual value for the total amount of heat exported from your organisation in each year, in kilowatt hours (kWh).
- You must report your organisation's energy consumption in the units indicated. These are the units in which the different energy types are most frequently sold, recorded and counted.
- You must report annual values for all years back to the start of your energy efficiency baseline. If your organisation did not consume (or generate or export) a specific energy type in a specific year, enter zero for that year.
- To avoid double counting you must not report consumption for the same energy users via ‘non-MPRN electricity’ and via validated MPRN(s).
- Similarly, you must not report consumption for the same energy users via ‘non-GPRN natural gas’ and via validated GPRN(s).
- All rows in all tables are mandatory except for ‘% electricity for transport’.
- Use input screen choose energy types to select the energy types that your organisation uses or has used.
- If ‘MPRN electricity’ is selected, use input screen MPRNs (electricity) to add, review, validate, upload and download MPRNs.
- If ‘GPRN natural gas’ is selected, use input screen GPRNs (gas) to add, review, validate, upload and download GPRNs.
