This help page provides an explanation of the data published by SEAI each year for public bodies and schools via its ‘Energy projects’ report, which complements each organisation's annual energy statement.
- SEAI is responsible for tracking the public sector's progress towards a range of energy and climate targets.
- To facilitate this, every public body and school is obliged to report energy management and performance data to SEAI on an annual basis (Regulation 5(3) in SI 426 of 2014). They do this by submitting data via SEAI's Public Sector Monitoring & Reporting (M&R) system.
- As part of this data submission process, public bodies and schools report details of energy-saving projects that they have already implemented and that they plan to implement.
- The M&R system calculates each public body's progress towards the targets in accordance with an established set of methodologies. A similar, simplified set of methodology is used for schools.
- A comprehensive glossary provides brief explanations of all the key terms used.
- The details of the implemented and planned energy projects reported by all public bodies and schools are available from SEAI's website (here).
The listing of energy projects comprises three elements:
- A search box & series of data filters that can be used to select different projects.
- A table that provides summary details of the energy projects that have been selected (filtered).
- A comprehensive spreadsheet download of all the projects, which is available via the ‘Export to Excel’ button.
- There is a search box and eight data filters immediately above the table.
- You can use the search box to find keyword matches in the following data fields: project name; project type; project sub-type; project location; project status; organisation name; PSO ID; and organisation sector.
- You can use the eight data filters to select which projects that match specific criteria: project type; project sub-type; project status; project implementation year; annual energy saving from project (kWh); annual CO2 saving from project (kgCO2); organisation name; and organisation sector.
- You can combine criteria from multiple filters to select the projects you want to view.
- The table shows all the projects that match your selection criteria.
- Note that the search box and data filters do not affect the projects included in the download file. No matter what you search/filter for, the download file always includes the full list of projects.
The table lists the projects that match your selection criteria. The following data is displayed:
- PSO ID of the organisation that reported the project to SEAI. The PSO ID is a unique identification number assigned to each public body and school by SEAI. All PSO IDs are in the format PSO-#####.
- Organisation that reported the project to SEAI.
- Project name, which is the name assigned to the project by the organisation that reported it.
- Project type, which is a technical classification of the project selected by the reporting organisation.
- Project sub-type, which is a technical sub-classification of the project selected by the reporting organisation.
- Status, which can be ‘implemented’ or 'planned'.
- Implementation year, which is the year in which the project was implemented or is planned for implementation, as reported to SEAI by the organisation.
- Annual energy savings (kWh), which is the reported reduction in final energy consumption in the first year after project implementation.
- Annual CO2 savings (kgCO2), which is the reduction in CO2 in first year after project implementation, as calculated from the reported reduction in energy consumption.
The spreadsheet report is available to download via the ‘Export to Excel’ button at the top right. No matter what search or filter criteria are applied, the spreadsheet download contains details of all energy-saving projects. The spreadsheet comprises an ‘intro’ worksheet and two data worksheets.
- This worksheet lists each project on a separate row.
- It shows the same data fields that are presented in the on-screen table, as well as one additional field (SEAI project ID in column D).
- This worksheet lists each project on a separate row.
- Columns A-I show the same data that is presented in the summary worksheet.
- Column J shows the duration of the energy savings, in years, as reported by the public body or school.
- Columns K-DZ show the calculated reduction in final energy consumption arising from the project in each year from 2001-2030, in kWh.
- Columns K-AN show the calculated reduction in thermal energy consumption.
- Columns AO-BR show the calculated reduction in transport energy consumption.
- Columns BS-CV show the calculated reduction in electricity consumption.
- Columns CW-DZ show the calculated reduction in total energy consumption.
- Columns EA-IP show the calculated reduction in CO2 emissions arising from the project in each year from 2001-2030, in kgCO2.
- Columns EA-FD show the calculated reduction in thermal CO2.
- Columns FE-GH show the calculated reduction in transport CO2.
- Columns GI-HL show the calculated reduction in electricity CO2.
- Columns HM-IP show the calculated reduction in total CO2.
